Example 1 - Insurance company
Separate applications generate files with various types of output: letters, policies, invoices and green cards for car insurances. Per customer these items need to be merged together into document sets before they can be inserted into enevelopes. Copies also need to be made for the electronic archive. In some cases another copy must be made for the agent - but all copies for one agent should go into one envelop. And for the internal processing another set of copies need to be made; sorted by policy number.

Example 2 - Utility company
In the current situation, the output from the central ERP-system is printed on cut-sheet printers. They are invoices which use two types of paper stock; normal letterhead and a pre-printed payment slip. Because of an internal re-organisation the output now needs to be sent to a continuous form printer. There need to be two runs and the inserter should merge the pages into one envelope per customer.
This means that Output management software should split the original output file into two print files and replace the old control codes for the inserter with the new ones for two-channel insertion.
